FIONA GOLDSWAIN’S ARTIST BIO
Fiona is a multimedia artist exploring how different media impact the notion of each piece. In her work the colours, textures and visual impact are all important for conveying the emotions to the viewer. There is a high emphasis on colour throughout reflecting the depth of passion in these emotions.
Her work includes symbolism often from her interest in philosophy and psychology. This is evident in the scope and depth of the materials she has selected.
She is currently working on areas of personal growth and is inspired by philosopher Martin Heidegger’s notion “A boundary is not that at which something stops but, that at which something begins.”
Contrarywise, we create our own ‘comfort zone’ with boundaries, perhaps to keep ourselves ‘safe’ from something? As Alfred Adler, psychologist, wrote “What purpose does it serve?”.
Once we resolve this issue of why we have need of a place or object, we can free ourselves. Letting go and leaving the ‘comfort zone’, even if this causes pain and discomfort. This is then where the growth begins.
These passions have developed from experiences and challenges in her own life. A long marriage now ended and raising four children of whom she is incredibly proud.
Understandably this has given her a wealth of these experiences. She has now been able to pour this into her artwork helping to unravel, give understanding and purpose to her journey in this world. This often leads her to focus on deep emotions and the notion of the “Inner Child”.
